"Awakening the Ashes" received an Honorable Mention for the MLA Scaglione Prize for French and Francophone Studies.

New York, NY – 10 December 2024 – The Modern Language Association of America today announced it is awarding its thirty-second annual Aldo and Jeanne Scaglione Prize for French and Francophone Studies to Emma Campbell, assistant professor of French literature at George Washington University, for her book Reinventing Babel in Medieval French: Translation and Untranslatability (c. 1120–c.1250), published by Oxford University Press. Marlene L. Daut, professor of French and African diaspora studies at Yale University, is receiving an honorable mention for Awakening the Ashes: An Intellectual History of the Haitian Revolution, published by the University of North Carolina Press. The prize is awarded annually for an outstanding scholarly work in the field of French or francophone linguistic or literary studies.
