It's packed with information; evidence of the years she has spent trawling every possible source. As a result, she has created a remarkably vivid portrait of a fascinating and charismatic man. A devoted father and a brilliant epistoler, Christophe could be tyrannical and compassionate in equal measures. A welcome addition to a legacy where, until recently, so much of what was written about him was incorrect--despite the breadth and depth of influence he had while still alive.
