After winning a major literary award, a critically-acclaimed Haitian-American author had one simple message for Haitians in Springfield and across the United States.

“I would just say never lose hope,” Marlene Daut told the Springfield News-Sun. “I think one of the dangerous things is people start to believe that narrative that they are told and people start to lose hope. Because if you’re telling people they will never make it, they will never succeed, Haiti will never get better … I never believed that and don’t believe it now.”
