ABOUT THE AUTHORS
Marlene L. Daut is Professor of French, African American Studies, and History at Yale University. She is the author of the award-winning Awakening the Ashes: An Intellectual History of the Haitian Revolution (UNC Press, 2023); Baron de Vastey and the Origins of Black Atlantic Humanism(Palgrave, 2017); and Tropics of Haiti: Race and the Literary History of the Haitian Revolution in the Atlantic World (Liverpool, 2015).
Dr. Régine Michelle Jean-Charles is the Dean’s Professor of Culture and Social Justice as well as Director of Africana Studies at Northeastern University. She is also a professor of Women,Gender, and Sexuality Studies. A Black feminist literary scholar who works at the intersections of race, gender and justice from a global perspective, her scholarship and teaching include work on Black France, African diasporic literatures, Caribbean Studies, Haiti, and the Haitian diaspora. She is the author of three books and numerous publications that have appeared in books, edited volumes, and peer-reviewed journals. Her most recent book, Looking for Other Worlds: Black Feminism and Haitian Fiction (University of Virginia Press, 2022) received an Honorable Mention for the Modern Language Association’s the James Russell Lowell Prize. Dr. Jean-Charles is currently at work on two book projects—The Rape Culture Syllabus is under contract with Columbia University Press, and Tifi at the Center: Holding Haitian Girlhood.

Porter Square Books: Cambridge Edition offers validated parking in the lot on Roseland St. behind Lesley's University Hall. Roseland Street is accessible by Beacon Street and Mass Ave. When you arrive at the lot, use the screen on the kiosk to get a ticket.
When you're ready to leave, ask for a validation barcode at the cash register. (No purchase necessary.) Parking is free on weekends and weekday evenings from 6PM-7AM. From 7AM-6PM on weekdays the first 45 minutes are free.
Upon exiting the lot, scan your ticket and choose "validation." Then scan the barcode your received from us. If you have an additional charge, you will be prompted to pay after scanning your barcode.
